SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The district administration of Lower South Waziristan has enforced Section 144 across the district in a bid to maintain law and order during Chand Raat and Eidul Fitr festivities.
An official statement released by the district administration on Wednesday outlined a series of restrictions put in place as precautionary measures aimed at preventing any untoward incidents during the celebratory period.
Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman stated that Section 144 would be effective for a period of five days, from March 19 to March 23. She noted that the administration had undertaken multiple steps to bolster security arrangements and ensure the safety of residents throughout the Eid celebrations.
Key restrictions under the order
According to the official statement, aerial firing has been completely prohibited under the order, with authorities warning that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the ban.
The sale and use of toy guns have also been banned, as the administration noted that such items can create fear and panic among the general public. Additionally, the district administration has imposed restrictions on the use of firecrackers and pressure horns in order to minimise noise disturbances during the festive period.
The imposition of Section 144 — a provision under the Code of Criminal Procedure that empowers district authorities to prohibit gatherings and certain activities in the interest of public safety — reflects the administration's broader effort to ensure peaceful Eid celebrations across the district.
Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman's announcement underscored the administration's commitment to taking proactive measures to safeguard citizens during the holidays. The restrictions are expected to remain in place until the conclusion of the designated five-day period on March 23.
Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with the administration and adhere to the imposed restrictions to ensure a safe and peaceful Eidul Fitr for all citizens of Lower South Waziristan.
