 LAHORE: In a decisive move ahead of the Eidul Fitr travel rush, Maryam Nawaz has ordered a strict crackdown on transporters charging excessive fares, directing authorities to enforce notified rates across the province without exception.

The chief minister instructed officials to ensure strict implementation of officially approved transport fares in all districts, warning that legal action would be taken against operators found overcharging passengers.

She directed Deputy Commissioners to maintain close oversight of transport operations to curb excessive fare collection and ticket black marketing. Authorities have also been instructed to prominently display official fare lists at all bus terminals to ensure transparency and protect passengers from exploitation.

In view of the ongoing holy month of Ramadan, the chief minister further ordered arrangements for Iftar for fasting passengers travelling during this period. She also directed officials to ensure proper seating arrangements and the availability of fans in waiting areas at bus stands to facilitate commuters.

Additionally, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasised the need for cleanliness at all bus terminals and instructed the Transport Department and other relevant authorities to conduct continuous field inspections to provide maximum relief to the public.

She also ordered strict monitoring of markets and bazaars to prevent the movement of anti-social elements during the Eid shopping season.

Reaffirming her commitment to public relief, the chief minister stressed that poor passengers travelling home for Eid must not be exploited under any circumstances. She reiterated that official fare lists must be prominently displayed at every bus terminal and directed authorities to take immediate legal action against violators charging excessive fares.
