ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Sindh governments on Tuesday announced public holidays on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, with KP declaring a three-day break and Sindh opting for two days off.
KP announces three-day Eid holiday
The KP government announced a three-day Eid holiday across the province. A press release issued by the provincial government stated:
"It is notified for general information that March 19, 20 and 21 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) shall be public holidays on the occasion of Eidul Fitr across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa."
The three-day holiday will span from Friday, March 19, through Sunday, March 21, giving residents and government employees an extended weekend to celebrate the festival marking the end of Ramadan.
Sindh declares two-day Eid holiday
Meanwhile, the Sindh government announced a two-day holiday for Eidul Fitr on March 20 and 21. A notification issued by the Sindh government read:
"The government of Sindh hereby declares March 20 and 21, 2026 (Friday and Saturday) as public holidays on the occasion of Eidul Fitr 2026 (Shawal 1447 AH) throughout the province of Sindh for all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh government, except essential services."
The Sindh government's notification specified that the holiday would apply to all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the provincial government's administrative control, with the exception of essential services which will continue to operate.
Sindh also announces Pakistan Day holiday
Separately, the Sindh government also announced a public holiday on March 23 to mark Pakistan Day. According to the notification, the holiday shall be observed by all workers in the province.
The announcements from the two provincial governments come as the nation prepares for the Eidul Fitr celebrations, with the KP government providing a slightly longer break compared to Sindh. The KP holiday beginning on March 19 means residents there will have an additional day off compared to their counterparts in Sindh, where the holiday begins on March 20.
Eidul Fitr, which marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, is one of the most widely celebrated religious festivals in Pakistan. The festival is traditionally observed with prayers, family gatherings, and festivities across the country.
