Punjab pushes agri overhaul as CM Maryam rolls out farmer-first reforms

• Punjab CM drives modernisation push across agriculture sector, with 2,000 agri interns deployed to boost field guidance, wheat output

• Model Agriculture Malls launched to deliver services under one roof, 10 more malls in pipeline to expand farmer outreach

 LAHORE: Under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the province’s agriculture sector is undergoing a gradual transformation through modern, farmer-centric initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and improving on-ground support.

Acting on the chief minister’s directives, a range of measures have been introduced to facilitate farmers, including the deployment of agriculture interns, establishment of model agriculture malls, construction of lined water channels, bulldozer operations, and laser land levelling.

For the first time in Punjab, around 2,000 agriculture graduate interns have been deployed in the field to guide farmers and provide technical assistance. Their presence is expected to contribute to improved wheat production across the province. Under the CM Agriculture Internship Programme, several interns have also secured employment in the private sector after gaining hands-on experience in farming and crop management.

As part of the broader reform agenda, Model Agriculture Malls have been made operational in four major cities, offering farmers access to essential agricultural services, inputs, and expert guidance under one roof.

On the directions of the chief minister, construction of 10 additional Model Agriculture Malls is currently underway across Punjab to further expand outreach and support.

The provincial government is also facilitating farmers through the provision of laser land levelling and bulldozers to enhance irrigation efficiency and overall agricultural productivity. In addition, the construction of lined water channels (pukka khalas) is helping improve water management and reduce wastage of irrigation resources.

These initiatives underscore the commitment of the Punjab government, under Maryam Nawaz, to modernise agriculture and deliver practical, field-level support to farmers across the province.
