Curfew lifted in Skardu after 11 days as normalcy returns
Authorities have lifted the curfew in Skardu after 11 days, restoring internet, mobile services, and flight operations as normalcy returns following recent unrest.

GILGIT: Authorities in Skardu have lifted the curfew after 11 days, restoring internet and mobile services, while flight operations between Skardu and other cities are set to resume from Thursday.
The curfew had been enforced in both Skardu and Gilgit following violent protests and demonstrations that erupted after the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei during US and Israeli attacks on Iran. The unrest led to clashes between protesters and security forces, resulting in the deaths of over 20 individuals, including three security officials, in Skardu and Gilgit.
At a press conference, Deputy Commissioner Skardu Hamza Murad explained that the curfew, suspension of internet services, and halt of flight operations were implemented due to the deteriorating law and order situation. Educational institutions were also closed on March 1 as part of the security measures.
“Keeping in mind the current situation and the difficulties faced by the people, the Gilgit-Baltistan government has decided to lift the curfew in Skardu,”
said Deputy Commissioner Hamza Murad. He further confirmed the restoration of mobile and internet services in the area.
With the lifting of the curfew, authorities have also announced the reopening of educational institutions and the resumption of flight operations between Skardu and other cities of Pakistan. The government’s decision comes as the situation in Skardu stabilizes and efforts continue to restore normalcy in the region.
The imposition of the curfew and related restrictions had significantly impacted daily life in Skardu, with residents facing challenges in communication, travel, and access to education. The restoration of services is expected to ease these difficulties for the local population.
