ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Spokesperson for Foreign Media, Mosharraf Zaidi, reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Saudi Arabia during an interview with Bloomberg TV on Wednesday. Zaidi stated that Pakistan would stand by Saudi Arabia "before it is needed," emphasizing the enduring nature of the bilateral relationship.
When questioned about whether Pakistan would assist Saudi Arabia "militarily or otherwise" in light of the recent escalation in the Middle East following US-Israeli strikes on Iran, Zaidi responded: "The question is not whether Pakistan might come to Saudi Arabia’s aid. Both countries, even before the strategic mutual defence agreement, have operated on a principle of being there for the other before they need the other. So, there is no question that we might; we will. No matter what, no matter when."
Zaidi highlighted that the key issue was not about the possibility of support, but rather about Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to prevent further escalation in the region. He noted that Pakistan is focused on ensuring that its closest partners are not drawn deeper into conflicts that could threaten regional stability and prosperity.
The spokesperson’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, following recent military actions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The situation has raised concerns about the potential for broader conflict in the region, with various countries reaffirming their alliances and security commitments.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have a long-standing relationship, characterized by mutual cooperation and strategic agreements. Zaidi’s comments underscore the depth of this partnership and Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia in times of need.
