Peshawar High Court seeks explanation for delay in levies merger

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday questioned the provincial government over the delay in merging the Levies force with the regular police, seeking a detailed explanation for the holdup.

During the hearing, the PHC bench addressed the issue of the pending merger, which has been under consideration for some time. The court asked the relevant authorities to clarify the reasons behind the continued postponement of the integration process.

In addition to the matter of the Levies force, the court also took up petitions related to alleged enforced disappearances. The bench heard arguments from petitioners who raised concerns about individuals who have reportedly gone missing under unclear circumstances.

The PHC directed the provincial government and concerned officials to submit comprehensive reports regarding both the delay in the Levies merger and the status of the missing persons cases. The court emphasized the importance of timely action and transparency in addressing these issues.

The hearing has been adjourned, with the court instructing the authorities to present their responses at the next session.
