Beirut — Pakistan has called on the international community to take immediate steps to halt what it described as Israeli military aggression in Lebanon, according to a statement released by the Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday.
The FO condemned Israel’s ongoing military actions in Lebanon, stating that these operations have led to the deaths of hundreds of civilians and the displacement of nearly half a million people. The statement emphasized that Israeli actions are in violation of international law and are undermining the Lebanese government’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the country.
According to the World Health Organisation, the conflict has resulted in 486 fatalities and 1,313 injuries, including 259 children. The escalation began earlier this month when Hezbollah, a Lebanese group, launched rockets and drones into Israel. In response, Israel carried out heavy bombardments across Lebanon.
The FO highlighted its concerns that the recent Israeli actions could further worsen the ongoing security and humanitarian crisis in the region. The statement noted, “Israel’s continued military aggression against Lebanon has resulted in the death of hundreds of civilians and the displacement of nearly half a million people.”
The Foreign Office also stressed the need for urgent intervention by the international community to prevent further escalation and to protect civilian lives. It reiterated Pakistan’s position that respect for international law and the sovereignty of nations is essential for lasting peace in the region.
The FO’s statement comes amid growing international concern over the widening conflict, which has seen Lebanon drawn into the US-Israeli confrontation with Iran. The situation remains tense, with fears that continued hostilities could have broader implications for regional stability.
