Hesson expresses confidence in new-look Pakistan squad ahead of Bangladesh ODIs

DHAKA: Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson has voiced strong support for the revamped national squad currently touring Bangladesh, highlighting the inclusion of several promising newcomers in the One-Day International (ODI) lineup.

Speaking ahead of Pakistan’s first training session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday, Hesson noted that six uncapped players have been selected for the upcoming three-match ODI series. He described the squad as an “exciting” blend of established players and emerging talent, emphasizing that the fresh faces have earned their places through impressive performances in domestic competitions and for the Pakistan Shaheens.

“It is an exciting group. We have got some fresh faces who have done well for the Shaheens and they have earned the right to get opportunities at the next level,” Hesson stated.

The head coach underscored the significance of the Bangladesh tour as a valuable opportunity to assess the younger players in challenging conditions. Hesson said the team’s challenge would be to adapt to the conditions and make the most of the opportunities presented during the series.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi was seen leading the squad during the training session, as the team prepared for the first ODI. The inclusion of six uncapped players marks a notable shift in selection strategy, with selectors opting to reward domestic and Shaheens’ performances.

The three-match ODI series is expected to provide a platform for the new players to showcase their skills at the international level, while also allowing the team management to evaluate their readiness for future assignments.

Hesson’s comments reflect a broader approach by the Pakistan Cricket Board to invest in emerging talent and build squad depth ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
