CTD sub-inspector killed in targeted attack in Quetta

QUETTA: A sub-inspector of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) was killed in a targeted attack in Quetta, according to police officials.

Authorities reported that the incident occurred on Friday in the Sariab Road area of the city. The victim, identified as Sub-Inspector Abdul Salam, was shot by unidentified assailants while he was on his way to work. Police stated that the attackers managed to flee the scene after the shooting.

Law enforcement officials said that Abdul Salam sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Civil Hospital Quetta, where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment. Security forces subsequently cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

Police described the incident as a targeted attack, noting that the deceased officer was associated with the CTD, which is responsible for counter-terrorism operations in the province. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet.

Officials said that an investigation has been initiated into the incident. The body of the slain officer was handed over to his family after the completion of medico-legal formalities.

Funeral prayers for Sub-Inspector Abdul Salam were offered in Quetta, attended by senior police officials, colleagues, and members of the local community, who paid tribute to his service.

This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by law enforcement personnel in Balochistan, where targeted attacks against police and security officials have been reported in the past.
