China's foreign minister calls for ceasefire in Gulf region

BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for a ceasefire in the Gulf region as soon as possible, stressing that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf countries should be fully respected.

Wang made the remarks in a phone call with his Kuwaiti counterpart, Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

In a separate call, Wang told Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani that China was deeply concerned about the rapidly escalating situation and would play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, China has introduced a five-point proposal aimed at easing tensions and restoring peace in the Middle East, particularly in relation to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

The announcement was made by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who emphasized Beijing's commitment to working alongside countries in the region to achieve stability.

Speaking on the matter, Wang Yi outlined the key components of China's plan, which seeks to address the root causes of the conflict and foster dialogue among the involved parties.

The proposal includes calls for upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter, supporting regional countries in resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation, and promoting the establishment of a multilateral security mechanism in the Gulf region.

Wang Yi stated, "China will work with regional countries to restore peace and stability in the Middle East." He further highlighted the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, as well as the need to prevent external interference in the affairs of Middle Eastern countries.

The Chinese foreign minister also underscored the necessity for all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate the situation. He reiterated China's readiness to play a constructive role in facilitating dialogue and negotiations, aiming to de-escalate tensions and contribute to long-term peace in the region.

According to Wang Yi, the five-point plan demonstrates China's ongoing commitment to supporting peace initiatives and promoting stability in the Middle East. The proposal comes at a time of heightened tensions, with Beijing positioning itself as a proactive partner in regional diplomacy.
