The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has launched the Rs1.47 billion Azeempura flyover project in Shah Faisal Colony. Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced the flyover will be completed in 100 days to ease traffic congestion in the city's eastern corridor.

KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has initiated a major infrastructure project with the groundbreaking of the Rs1.47 billion Azeempura flyover in Shah Faisal Colony. The ceremony, held on Sunday, was led by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, who formally laid the foundation stone for the flyover and the reconstruction of adjacent roads.
The project aims to address longstanding traffic congestion issues in the city’s eastern corridor. According to Mayor Wahab, the flyover is expected to be completed within 100 days and is designed to significantly ease the daily commute for residents of Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi, and nearby areas, especially those traveling towards the airport corridor.
The Azeempura intersection has historically been a major traffic bottleneck, as it serves as a convergence point for vehicles coming from both residential neighborhoods and industrial zones. The new flyover is intended to streamline traffic flow between Shah Faisal Colony and Shahrah-i-Bhutto, providing much-needed relief for motorists and reducing delays at the signalised junction.
Speaking to the media at the event, Mayor Wahab stated that the project would bring substantial benefits to commuters. He emphasized the importance of the initiative in improving connectivity and facilitating smoother movement across the eastern parts of Karachi.
The launch of the Azeempura flyover is part of broader efforts by the KMC to enhance urban infrastructure and address key challenges faced by the city’s growing population. The reconstruction of surrounding roads is also included in the development plan, further contributing to the improvement of traffic conditions in the area.
Officials expressed optimism that the timely completion of the flyover would mark a significant step forward in Karachi’s ongoing efforts to modernize its transport network and support economic activity in the region.
