Middle East airlines cautiously resume flights after regional airspace closures

DUBAI: Major airlines across the Middle East have begun a gradual and cautious resumption of flights following widespread airspace closures linked to regional tensions, which temporarily disrupted one of the world’s key aviation hubs.

According to a report in Dawn, leading carriers such as Emirates, Etihad Airways, and flydubai have started operating limited schedules from the United Arab Emirates. Dubai’s two main airports have reopened, allowing for a partial restoration of air traffic. However, the situation remains fluid, with many flights still cancelled and airlines universally advising passengers not to travel to airports unless they have a confirmed and valid booking.

The disruption was caused by temporary airspace closures over parts of the Middle East. Airlines responded by taking precautionary measures, which included grounding flights and rerouting aircraft to ensure passenger safety. While some services have resumed, operations in Qatar remain severely restricted, with significant limitations still in place.

Other regional carriers have also adjusted their operations. Saudia has begun a partial resumption of key flights to Dubai, while Oman Air, SalamAir, and Gulf Air have announced ongoing cancellations. The impact of these disruptions has been felt across the region, affecting both international and regional travel.

Some airlines have also restarted flights between the Middle East and Pakistan, providing limited connectivity as the situation evolves. Despite these steps towards normalisation, airlines continue to monitor developments closely and are urging travellers to stay updated on the latest flight information.

The ongoing adjustments highlight the complexities faced by the aviation sector in the region as it navigates operational challenges amid heightened tensions. Passengers are advised to remain cautious and check with their respective airlines before making travel plans.
