The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works convened on Wednesday at the Old PIPS Hall, Parliament Lodges, to assess compliance with directives concerning the transfer and salary payments of employees from the former Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD). The meeting was chaired by Senator Nasir Mehmood and focused on the implementation of instructions issued during the committee's previous session on February 16, 2026.
According to reports, the committee had earlier directed several ministries and departments to accept the transfer of the remaining Pak PWD maintenance staff. The directive also required that these employees receive their salaries, including arrears for the past seven months. This action follows a Federal Cabinet decision, which was communicated through a notification from the Ministry of Housing and Works dated September 6, 2024.
During the meeting, a compliance report was presented, detailing the current status of the staff absorption process and the disbursement of pending salaries. The committee reviewed the progress made by the relevant ministries and departments in adhering to the instructions. Members of the committee emphasized the importance of timely salary payments and the integration of the affected staff into their new roles.
In addition to the discussion on Pak PWD staff, the Senate panel also finalized a report regarding retired officers who continue to occupy government houses in Islamabad. The report includes information on outstanding arrears related to these accommodations.
The committee reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all directives are implemented in full and that employees receive their due payments without further delay. Further actions and follow-ups are expected as the committee continues to monitor the situation.
