Road closures implemented in Islamabad’s Red Zone ahead of expected protests

Authorities in Islamabad have closed several routes leading to the city’s Red Zone on Friday in anticipation of protests by religious parties, according to police statements. The measures were announced to manage traffic and ensure security in the area.

Islamabad police stated that Margalla Road and the route via Islamabad Marriott Hotel will remain accessible for entry into the Red Zone. In a message posted on X, police clarified that all other entry points to the Red Zone would be closed. Additionally, Fazal-e-Haq Road towards China Chowk is also closed to traffic.

To facilitate commuters, citizens have been advised to use Jinnah Avenue as an alternative route. Traffic from Polyclinic towards Lal Quarter Chowk will be diverted via Luqman Hakim Road, while Saddar Road has also been suggested as an option for motorists. For those traveling from G-6 to F-6, the China Chowk underpass or the Seventh Avenue to Jinnah Avenue route is recommended.

Furthermore, traffic from Abpara Chowk towards Serena Hotel will be diverted. Commuters coming from Club Road or Bara Kahu are advised to follow the route via Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, and Seventh Avenue.

Police have urged citizens to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the suggested diversions to minimize inconvenience. The closures are expected to remain in place while the authorities monitor the situation in light of the anticipated protests.
