Former US President Bill Clinton has stated under oath that Donald Trump once told him about having "some great times" with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to a videotaped deposition released on Monday.
Clinton's Testimony to Lawmakers
Clinton made these remarks during a deposition to the House of Representatives Oversight Committee last week. The testimony, which was made public on Monday, revealed that Clinton recounted an encounter with Trump at a golf tournament in either 2002 or 2003, after Clinton had left office and well before Trump became president.
"Somehow he knew I had flown in Jeffrey Epstein’s aircraft," Clinton told the committee. He added, "He said, ‘You know, we had some great times together over the years, but we fell out all because of a real estate deal’."
Details of Trump and Epstein's Relationship
According to Clinton's testimony, Trump indicated that his relationship with Epstein ended due to a disagreement over a real estate transaction. Reports also note that Trump has previously stated their falling out was related to Epstein hiring young women who worked at the Mar-a-Lago club.
Clinton, during his deposition, also addressed questions about his own interactions with Epstein. He stated that he never visited Epstein’s island and claimed he was unaware of Epstein’s 17 visits to the White House during Clinton’s presidency from 1993 to 2001.
Statements on Epstein's White House Visits
When questioned about Epstein’s visits, Clinton maintained that he had no knowledge of the visits during his time in office. The deposition did not provide further details regarding the nature of these visits or any additional context about Clinton’s relationship with Epstein.
“He said, ‘You know, we had some great times together over the years, but we fell out all because of a real estate deal’,” Clinton recalled Trump saying about Epstein.
The release of Clinton’s deposition has drawn attention to the connections between high-profile political figures and Jeffrey Epstein, though Clinton emphasized his lack of awareness regarding certain aspects of Epstein’s activities and visits.
