Sindh honour killing horror

A tragic case of honour killing rocked Sindh recently when a 52-year-old woman in the village of Akri Chodgi in Khairpur was brutally murdered in her own home by a close relative. Even though her children kept pleading with the killer to spare their mother, the man mercilessly murdered her in front of them. In a desperate plea, the woman, a mother of nine daughters and two sons, begged the killer not to kill her at least in front of her children, but the killer showed no mercy and shot her multiple times there and then. After murdering her, the killer dragged the body and threw it out of the house.

The shocking incident has left the local community and the entire province in a state of horror. Despite the brutality, the culprit remains at large, and such crimes continue to occur with alarming frequency in Sindh.

Reports suggest that law-enforcement authorities, at least in some cases, choose to take no strict action, indirectly enabling such killings. The authorities should take immediate steps to ensure justice, and protect vulnerable women in Sindh.
