GDA Leader Murtaza Jatoi Acquitted in Two Police Encounter Cases

Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, a prominent leader of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and head of the National Peoples Party (NPP), was acquitted on Monday in two separate cases related to alleged police encounters in Larkana district.

The verdict was delivered by Additional District & Sessions Judge-I of Larkana, Habib ur Rehman Junejo. The judge ruled that the prosecution had failed to substantiate the charges brought against Mr Jatoi in both cases. One case was registered at the Dokri police station and the other at the Badah police station, both located in Larkana district.

Mr Jatoi, who had consistently attended court proceedings, was present in the courtroom when the judgement was announced. He was represented by legal counsels Mujahid Ali Jatoi and Qazi Manzoor Ahmed during the hearings.

Reports indicate that on February 20, 2025, Mr Jatoi’s wife, Mrs Naveen Jatoi, filed a petition seeking the quashment of three cases, including FIR No. 02 of 2025 registered at Dokri police station and FIR No. 09. However, the recent acquittal pertains specifically to the two encounter cases registered at Dokri and Badah police stations.

The court’s decision to acquit Mr Jatoi was based on the prosecution’s inability to provide sufficient evidence to support the allegations. No further details regarding the nature of the alleged encounters or the contents of the FIRs were provided in the available reports.

Following the acquittal, Mr Jatoi addressed the media at the Larkana court premises. Further developments regarding the remaining case mentioned in Mrs Naveen Jatoi’s petition have not been reported at this time.
