AIOU launches AI-powered tool to advance Urdu in digital era

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University has unveiled an artificial intelligence-based linguistic platform titled “Gramora for Urdu,” marking a step toward integrating the national language with emerging digital technologies.

The launch ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar and Senator Pervez Rashid, who formally inaugurated the software and praised the developers for their contribution to promoting Urdu in the digital landscape.

University officials said the initiative is designed to modernise the use of Urdu by enabling advanced linguistic support through artificial intelligence. The tool aims to assist users with language structure, writing accuracy and digital compatibility, helping bridge the gap between traditional language use and modern computing systems.

Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of equipping Urdu with technological tools that ensure its relevance in rapidly evolving digital environments. They noted that as artificial intelligence continues to shape communication and education worldwide, the availability of robust linguistic software for Urdu is essential for its growth and global accessibility.

The university described the project as part of broader efforts to align academic and research activities with technological innovation. By incorporating AI-driven language solutions, the institution hopes to encourage wider use of Urdu across digital platforms, research initiatives and educational technologies.
