NA warns India against suspending Indus Waters Treaty

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution declaring that any attempt by India to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) would be considered an "act of war."

The resolution, tabled by Federal Minister for Water Resources Mian Moin Wattoo, condemned India’s reported move to halt the treaty and called on the government to take appropriate measures in response.

During the session, opposition member Iqbal Afridi warned that India, having faced defeat before, would face it again if it continued proxy warfare and terrorism. PPP’s Aijaz Jakhrani emphasized the vital importance of water, stating, "Water is life, and we will not compromise on it."

The Assembly also condemned the recent school bus attack in Khuzdar, with Balochistan member Mian Khan Bugti blaming Indian-backed proxies and pledging to defeat them.

Additionally, the Assembly approved the Gas-Fired Power Plants Bill 2025, introducing levies on privately operated captive power plants despite opposition.

The session concluded with assurances from Federal Minister Sardar Yousaf to address concerns about food quality and arrangements for Hajj pilgrims.
