Azma Bokhari responds to public criticism of Maryam Nawaz’s appearance

LAHORE: Junaid Safdar’s wedding recently became the talk of the town in Pakistan, attracting attention from various quarters. The event saw the attendance of notable figures, including members of the Sharif family, the Sheikh family, PML-N dignitaries, and several army officials. Among the most talked-about moments of the wedding was Maryam Nawaz’s striking presence, with many commenting on her fashion choices and overall appearance. While some praised her looks, a number of critics claimed that Maryam Nawaz’s attention-grabbing style overshadowed her daughter-in-law, Shanzay Ali Rohail, on her big day.

Provincial Minister Azma Bokhari has now addressed the criticism aimed at Maryam Nawaz. Speaking on the issue, she defended the former’s appearance, stating, “There was excessive criticism of Maryam Nawaz. People claimed the Chief Minister was dressed and styled so well that the bride did not get the spotlight. But Maryam Nawaz is naturally a very beautiful woman, and whenever she steps into the spotlight, people are drawn to her. Allah has made her beautiful, and every woman has the right to look beautiful because that’s how women are created.”

Bokhari continued, explaining the varying degrees of beauty among women. “Some women, like Maryam Nawaz, are exceptionally charming. Others, like us, are more ordinary, and some may not look presentable even with filters. No one is born ‘bad’—circumstances shape us. I don’t want to comment on anyone’s upbringing, but every parent strives to raise their children well. Sometimes, despite good intentions and upbringing, the outcomes can still be disappointing. I’m sure such parents feel embarrassed by their children.”
