  • Says 46 operational Sahulat Bazaars throughout the province stabilise household kitchens

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has hailed the Punjab government’s Sahulat Bazaars project as a first-of-its-kind initiative, providing affordable, high-quality food items while creating thousands of employment opportunities across Punjab.

Addressing a briefing on the initiative, the chief minister said the project has enabled 55,000 families to earn a livelihood and offered dignified employment to 9,200 individuals at 46 operational Sahulat Bazaars throughout the province. “This initiative has not only helped stabilise household kitchens but has also eased the inflationary burden on citizens,” she added.

Official figures show that more than 85 million people shopped at Sahulat Bazaars over the past year, purchasing goods worth Rs4.25 billion. Consumers benefited from 13 essential food items, including fruits and vegetables, being offered at wholesale rates, generating over Rs1.1 billion in savings.

Currently, Sahulat Bazaars are operational in cities including Wazirabad, Chunian, Jaranwala, Chiniot, Khanewal, Bhalwal, Pattoki, Okara and Muzaffargarh. Speaking on future expansion, the chief minister set a target to establish 30 additional bazaars by June 30, while directing authorities to gradually roll out these markets in every tehsil of Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz reiterated her government’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to essential commodities at reasonable prices. She emphasised that Sahulat Bazaars are a step toward economic stability for households and a model for employment generation and price regulation.

“The Sahulat Bazaars project is not just about affordability; it is about dignity, stability, and economic empowerment for the people of Punjab,” she said.
