KARACHI: Javed Sheikh has publicly responded after a remark made by Bushra Ansari during a press event sparked criticism on social media.
The exchange took place at an event attended by several senior artists, including Behroze Sabzwari, Rubina Ashraf, and Shabbir Jan, where what appeared to be a light moment turned personal.
Sheikh and Ansari have shared a long-standing association in the entertainment industry, with their friendship spanning decades. Both have previously spoken about their bond, which made the public nature of the exchange unexpected for many viewers.
During the event, Ansari made a comment that was widely interpreted as a reference to Sheikh’s divorce, saying she had seen his house being built and later broken, adding that he once did not even serve her food when she visited.
Sheikh reacted strongly, saying that a broken home should not be treated as humour. He stated that he had never commented publicly on Ansari’s personal life or her divorce and questioned why his own marriage was brought up in a joking manner.
He added that if his personal history was discussed publicly, then similar acknowledgment should be made of others’ experiences as well.
Clips from the event circulated widely online, where many users criticised the remark and expressed support for Sheikh, describing the comment as unnecessary and insensitive.
