ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new digital fingerprint verification system, allowing users to verify their biometrics through the Pak ID mobile application, officials said on Sunday.
According to authorities, the updated system enables applicants in Pakistan and abroad to complete fingerprint verification remotely using the Pak ID app, removing the need for physical visits in many cases. The move is aimed at improving access to identity and passport-related services, particularly for overseas Pakistanis.
Officials said the system also includes a built-in facial verification option that will be offered automatically if fingerprint authentication fails due to worn fingerprints or technical limitations. The alternative method is intended to reduce delays in processing applications.
Director General of Immigration and Passports Mustafa Jamal said that a significant number of overseas Pakistanis had raised concerns about difficulties with the previous online fingerprint verification process. He said the new system was designed to address those complaints and provide relief to expatriates and senior citizens who often face challenges with biometric verification.
Jamal added that the government was focusing on the use of digital technology to improve the delivery of public services. He said the upgraded verification framework was part of broader efforts to streamline passport and identity-related procedures.
Officials said the new system would improve accuracy and reduce rejection rates caused by biometric mismatches. They added that further enhancements to digital identity services were planned as part of ongoing reforms.
NADRA advised applicants to update the Pak ID application to access the new verification features and follow official guidelines to complete the process successfully.
