Pakistan, Switzerland vow deeper cooperation in education and development

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Switzerland have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in education, vocational training, and sustainable development during a meeting on the sidelines of the 43rd UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

State Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar met Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, where both sides discussed expanding collaboration in research, innovation, and institutional linkages to better prepare youth for future challenges, according to an official statement.

Wajiha Qamar briefed her counterpart on Pakistan’s ongoing reforms aimed at improving access to inclusive and digital learning, enhancing skill development, and upgrading the quality of education nationwide. She also appreciated Switzerland’s support for global education and development initiatives and conveyed Pakistan’s interest in partnering on technical and higher education programmes.

Ignazio Cassis commended Pakistan’s active role within UNESCO and its efforts to advance equitable education and capacity-building projects. He reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to deepening bilateral engagement in areas of mutual interest, particularly innovation-driven growth and sustainability.

Both sides concluded the meeting by pledging continued collaboration under UNESCO’s framework and by reaffirming their shared goal of advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG-4 on quality education.
