Only 229 candidates pass CSS 2024 as success rate hits record low

The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has released the results of the Central Superior Services (CSS) Examination 2024, revealing one of the lowest success rates in recent years — just 2.48 percent.

Out of 15,602 candidates who appeared for the exam, only 229 managed to pass, including 119 men and 110 women. The FPSC stated that 397 candidates had initially cleared the written portion, but after the viva voce and interviews, only 229 were declared successful. Their final appointments will depend on medical clearance.

The provincial breakdown shows that 269 successful candidates were from Punjab, followed by 33 from Sindh (Rural), 19 from Sindh (Urban), 31 from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 22 from Balochistan, and two from Gilgit-Baltistan. No candidate from Azad Jammu and Kashmir qualified this year.

The top three positions were secured by Muhammad Shafay Ijaz in first place, followed by Sana Rasool in second, and Momina Azhar in third. Among the top 20 qualifiers, 19 opted for the Pakistan Administrative Service, while one chose the Police Service of Pakistan. Notably, none of the top 30 candidates selected the Foreign Service this year, marking a shift in preference toward administrative roles.

The exceptionally low pass rate underscores the growing difficulty of Pakistan’s most competitive civil service examination, which continues to draw thousands of aspirants each year despite its rigorous selection process.
