Punjab announces decision on closure of schools and colleges

LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Monday announced that all schools and colleges across the province will remain open on Tuesday as scheduled, dispelling widespread rumours of closures amid recent protests.

The clarification came after confusion spread among students and parents following demonstrations by Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). “All schools in Punjab are open tomorrow as per schedule,” the minister said, assuring that there is no plan to suspend educational activities.

Protests by TLP in recent days caused disruptions in several areas. The group, which began its march from Lahore on Friday, was heading toward Islamabad to demonstrate in support of Gaza and Palestine outside the US embassy.

Authorities blocked the protesters’ route near Muridke, where clashes broke out between demonstrators and law enforcement personnel on Monday before police dispersed the crowd.

In response, some sections of roads and motorways around Lahore and Islamabad were temporarily closed, sparking public concern and prompting early dismissals in a few schools in the capital region.

Officials confirmed that despite the unrest, all educational institutions across Punjab, including those in Lahore, operated normally on Monday and will continue to follow their regular schedules.
