Punjab Police spending Rs10m daily on welfare of personnel, families: Spokesperson

LAHORE: The Punjab Police is spending over Rs10 million daily on welfare initiatives for its personnel and their families, with more than Rs1.64 billion already disbursed under various schemes during the current year, according to an official spokesperson.

The spokesperson said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar has placed the welfare and prosperity of police employees at the forefront of his priorities. Multiple initiatives are underway to support serving and retired personnel as well as the families of martyrs.

Giving details, the spokesperson said over Rs514.7 million have been distributed as educational scholarships for police employees’ children, while Rs460.5 million have been granted as wedding gifts for daughters of police personnel. Another Rs245 million was spent on medical treatment assistance.

Additionally, more than Rs220 million was released in retirement grants, Rs141.5 million in subsistence allowances for families of deceased officials, Rs50 million for funeral expenses, and Rs14.8 million as immediate financial aid.

Dr. Usman Anwar said income generated through the Police Welfare Fund and other sources is being utilized transparently to address the needs of police families and improve their living standards.

Under the IGP’s direction, a ceremony was held at the Central Police Office, Lahore, to provide financial assistance to the families of martyrs for home construction and to distribute laptops among their children. Cheques worth Rs8 million were handed to families of 16 martyrs from various districts, with each receiving Rs500,000.

Since 2017, the Punjab Police has provided Rs76.5 million to 42 martyrs’ families for home construction, allotted 737 residential plots, and given 20 apartments. So far this year, 88 laptops have been distributed among martyrs’ children, bringing the total to 211 over the past two and a half years.
