ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday hailed Palestinian group Hamas’s response to United States President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan as a “window for ceasefire and ensuring peace that must not be allowed to close again,” expressing hope that the development could finally pave the way for an end to months of bloodshed in Gaza.
His remarks came after President Trump late Friday urged Israel to “immediately stop bombing Gaza” following Hamas’s conditional acceptance of parts of the US-brokered proposal, which includes the release of hostages and steps toward ending the conflict. While key issues such as disarmament remain unresolved, the move was widely seen as a significant breakthrough in months-long diplomatic efforts.
Shortly after Hamas’s response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel was preparing for an “immediate implementation” of the first phase of Trump’s plan, focused on the release of Israeli hostages.
The development drew global applause, including from Pakistan. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Shehbaz said:

The premier also extended gratitude to President Trump and to the leaderships of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkiye, Jordan, Egypt, and Indonesia for their mediation efforts during meetings on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continue working “with all partners and brotherly nations for everlasting peace in Palestine,” stressing that the current momentum must not be lost.
“The statement issued by Hamas creates a window for a ceasefire and ensuring peace that we must not allow to close again,” he said. “Pakistan will continue to work constructively with all its partners for a durable and just peace.”
Dar Welcomes Move, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire
Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar described Hamas’s response as a “welcome step,” calling on Israel to halt its offensive without delay.
“This must now result in an immediate ceasefire, end to Palestinian suffering, ensure hostages’ release, and allow free flow of humanitarian aid. Israel must immediately stop its attacks,” Dar said.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering support” for the Palestinian cause and its longstanding demand for the establishment of a “sovereign, viable State of Palestine on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.”
Later, Dar held a telephonic conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to review ongoing diplomatic efforts among the eight Arab-Islamic countries and the US — initiated during the UNGA — to secure an “immediate and durable ceasefire” and ensure unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office (FO), both ministers reaffirmed their firm commitment to the Palestinian cause and agreed to remain in close coordination with regional and international partners to advance a “just, comprehensive, and lasting peace” based on the two-state solution.
Dar also lauded Saudi Arabia’s “constructive and continued engagement” in the peace process.
Pakistan Welcomes Hamas’s Positive Response
In a separate statement, the FO officially welcomed Hamas’s response to the US peace plan, calling it “an important opportunity to secure an immediate ceasefire, end the bloodshed of innocent Palestinians in Gaza, and ensure release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners.”

“Israel must immediately cease attacks,” the FO said, appreciating US President Trump’s efforts and expressing hope that the initiative would lead to a “durable ceasefire and a just, lasting peace.”
The statement added that Pakistan “will continue to contribute constructively and meaningfully to the peace process,” reaffirming its “principled support” for the Palestinian cause and “complete solidarity with the Palestinian people in their just struggle for self-determination.”
“Pakistan supports the establishment of a sovereign, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions,” the FO reiterated.
PM Shehbaz Reiterates Pakistan’s Consistent Stand
In a later post on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed satisfaction over the “positive developments” toward a possible ceasefire, saying Pakistan’s stance on Palestine was rooted in moral, humanitarian, and historical solidarity.
He wrote: “Pakistan has always stood by the Palestinian people and shall always do so. We will continue working with brotherly nations and global partners to ensure a just and lasting peace.”
The premier’s statement marks Pakistan’s renewed diplomatic engagement on the Gaza issue, aligning with the broader efforts of Islamic countries and the United States to achieve a ceasefire and initiate a political process for lasting peace in the region.
