Free Wi-Fi now available at over 1,400 locations across Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab government has expanded its CM Free Wi-Fi Service, now available at more than 1,400 locations across the province. As per the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), the service covers 442 locations in Lahore, where over 58 million users have consumed nearly 1,191 terabytes of data.

In addition to Lahore, the service is active in 23 districts, providing free Wi-Fi at 952 public sites, including key urban centers and public locations. A new initiative will also offer free Wi-Fi at 450 women’s government colleges across Punjab to improve access to educational resources, enhance safety, and provide emergency services to female students.

The service now features Wi-Fi 6 technology, providing faster speeds and better performance in crowded areas. The number of hotspots in Lahore has doubled in recent months, growing from around 230 to over 430. The service is intended for essential and emergency use, such as accessing education, communication, and government services, with restrictions on video streaming and entertainment. Content filtering and usage management tools are in place to ensure responsible use.

This initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce the digital divide, promote learning, and strengthen public safety infrastructure across the province.
