Blast at illegal LPG shop kills 10-year-old in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A 10-year-old boy was killed, and his father injured in an explosion at an illegal liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shop in Tando Yousuf, a locality in Hyderabad, on Monday. The blast occurred in violation of government laws regulating LPG filling stations.

The explosion’s impact was heard in nearby areas, and it occurred near a railway crossing. The victim has been identified as Umar Hussain, with his father Hussain sustaining minor injuries. The family, alongside neighbours, staged a sit-in outside the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office, demanding the arrest of those responsible for the explosion. The protest ended after police assured them of taking action.

Umar’s body was transferred to Liaquat University Hospital for postmortem, and an FIR was lodged at the complainant’s request. Hussain named Kamran alias Kalu, Ilyas Qureshi, and Zahid Rajput as suspects in the case. These individuals are residents of Gujrati Mohalla, where frequent gas outages and low pressure force many to use LPG for cooking. However, the suspects had not been apprehended by evening.
