Brad Pitt Reveals Reason Behind Buzzcut as He Teases New Role i

Brad Pitt is revealing the inspiration behind his fresh buzzcut! At the premiere of his new movie F1 in New York City on June 16, the 61-year-old actor shared that his iconic 2004 buzzcut is tied to his latest film role.

“I just finished a job,” Pitt said, teasing details about his character. “It’s for a character we did.”

The actor, who was first spotted sporting the new look last month in Los Angeles, paired the buzzcut with a navy double-breasted suit, a white shirt, and a satin pocket square on the red carpet. The look also made an appearance in Pitt’s GQ summer issue cover in late May.

At the premiere, Pitt was joined by his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, marking a rare public appearance together. De Ramon, 32, supported her partner in a sheer halter top and long, feathered skirt, accessorized with a white Chanel purse.

During an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, Pitt reflected on his time filming F1, where he plays Sonny Hayes, a Formula 1 driver returning to the sport after nearly three decades. He shared that the experience was memorable, especially while filming at iconic racing tracks.

“I got a lot of memories,” Pitt said. “Every time I got in the car, these tracks are just like hallowed ground. Silverstone. Spa in Belgium was the most memorable. Abu Dhabi. We really got spoiled.”

Pitt also described the unique feeling of high-speed driving in the film compared to everyday life: “There’s a strange calm in the car when you’re hitting everything—your breaking points, your turning points. It’s such a piece. I can’t even describe it. Yeah, it’s incredible.”

Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, was once Formula 1’s rising star in the 1990s until a crash nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s a racer-for-hire when his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem) convinces him to return for one final shot at redemption.

The film also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Sarah Niles, with Lewis Hamilton serving as one of the producers.

F1 hits theaters on June 27.
