Mossad operative hanged in Iran, 4 others detained

TEHRAN: Iranian authorities have executed an individual convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, according to state media reports on Monday, as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate following recent cross-border strikes.

The execution, which followed a full criminal trial and the upholding of the verdict by Iran’s Supreme Court, underscores the growing covert conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

Although the identity of the executed individual has not been disclosed, officials confirmed that the accused had been involved in espionage and subversive activities on behalf of the Israeli regime.

The announcement of the execution came alongside reports of additional arrests. Sa’eed Montazer al-Mahdi, spokesperson for the Police Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said that two Mossad operatives were arrested on Sunday in Fashafuyeh, a district in Ray County, located in Tehran Province.

Security forces reportedly seized over 200 kilograms of explosives, components for 23 drones, launchers, and other materials in possession of the suspects. A Nissan pickup truck was also impounded during the operation.

“These operatives were identified and detained before they could carry out acts of sabotage inside the country,” Montazer al-Mahdi said.

Earlier the same day, two more suspected Mossad agents were apprehended in Savojbolagh County in Alborz Province, adjacent to the capital region. Authorities believe the operatives were part of a wider Israeli plot to destabilise Iran using small, explosive-laden drones.

Iranian officials have blamed Mossad for orchestrating a series of sabotage operations inside the country since June 13, when Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple sites in Iranian territory, including residential buildings. The strikes, described by Tehran as unprovoked aggression, marked a dramatic escalation in hostilities.

In retaliation, Iran launched ballistic missiles and drones deep into Israel, targeting Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, and other major cities. Reports suggest that daily life in parts of Israel has been severely disrupted, with residents forced to take shelter in underground bunkers for extended periods.

The Iranian government has vowed to pursue and dismantle all Mossad-linked networks operating on its soil, asserting that the latest arrests reflect the vigilance of its intelligence apparatus amid heightened regional tensions.
