- More than 3.726 million driving licenses issued during the current year: Police spokesperson
LAHORE: Punjab Police is actively working to ensure the best service delivery to the public and implement traffic laws effectively and has issued driving licenses to more than 3.726 million people during the current year so far.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, more than 5.445 million challans and fines of more than Rs.3.33 billion were imposed for violation of traffic laws.
Similarly, more than 228,000 vehicles emitting smoke were challaned, more than 19,000 were detained in police stations, while the fitness certificates of 176 vehicles emitting smoke were confiscated.
Punjab IG of Police Dr Usman Anwar said that action should be taken against those who do not comply with traffic rules. Effective steps should be taken to recover from traffic challan defaulters. He said that training is also being provided to citizens in 127 driving training schools of Punjab Police.
Citizens are being made aware of road safety, driving licensing, and traffic education in driving training centers. Dr Anwar said that driving without a license is a crime, and it is very important for drivers to have a license. Citizens can apply online for learner and regular driving license renewal, learner licenses, and duplicate licenses.
