Brooke Shields’ podcast interview with India Hicks, where she criticized Meghan Markle for being “too precious,” has been quietly deleted just a week after its release. The episode, initially posted earlier this month, is no longer available on Hicks’ Substack website, with the link now leading to a “page not found” message. Multiple reports have confirmed the removal, leaving many to wonder why the podcast was taken down.
During the conversation, Shields reflected on a panel at SXSW in March 2024, where both she and Markle discussed gender equality. Shields recounted how Meghan shared a story about writing a letter at age 11 to Procter & Gamble, urging them to change a commercial that implied dishwashing was a woman’s job. Shields, however, found Meghan’s recounting of the story “too serious” and “precious.” She admitted to interrupting Meghan during the panel, attempting to lighten the mood by joking about her own childhood role in the film Pretty Baby.
The comment, referencing her portrayal of a prostitute at age 11, reportedly lightened the atmosphere of the panel, according to Shields. While Meghan has previously shared how her early activism shaped her advocacy for gender equality, Shields’ remarks seem to have struck a nerve with some listeners.
Despite the podcast’s swift removal, Markle has continued to focus on social justice through her Archewell foundation, Smart Works, and various public speaking engagements aimed at addressing issues like racial justice and maternal health.
