King Charles ‘Livid’ As He Is Forced To Cancel Important Christmas Tradition Amid Royal Family Drama

King Charles III is reportedly “livid” over a potential shortage of pheasants at his Sandringham Estate, which could force the cancellation of the annual Boxing Day shoot, a longstanding royal Christmas tradition. The estate, located about 110 miles north of London, was inherited by Charles from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and is known for its wild-reared game birds used during seasonal shoots.

According to The Sun, the number of available birds has significantly declined, potentially disrupting this winter’s shooting calendar. A recent staff shake-up, including the dismissal of a longtime gamekeeper responsible for managing the bird population, has been linked to the current situation.

A source told the publication, “It was a total cock-up. No birds, no bang, just red faces. The King wasn’t having it.” Known for his advocacy of wildlife conservation and countryside traditions, Charles reportedly opposes importing birds from outside the estate to compensate for the shortfall.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on staffing matters when approached by PEOPLE.

Sandringham remains a central location for the royal family’s Christmas celebrations. Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—have their country residence, Anmer Hall, on the estate and usually spend the holidays there.

Since taking over the management of Sandringham following Queen Elizabeth’s passing in September 2022, Charles has promoted organic farming and undertaken extensive grounds renovations. This includes introducing a topiary garden featuring thousands of Yew hedges alongside a variety of perennial plants and roses.

Charles has also dedicated significant attention to the gardens at his Gloucestershire residence, Highgrove House, reflecting his long-standing passion for horticulture and the environment.
