MULTAN: The ongoing heatwave across South Punjab has led to a surge in skin-related health issues, with clinics reporting a sharp increase in patients seeking treatment for various ailments.
Dr Waqas Arqam Malik, a dermatologist, said excessive heat and sweating were contributing to fungal infections, skin rashes, acne breakouts, and body odour problems. He explained that blocked sweat pores create ideal conditions for bacteria and fungi to thrive, particularly among people with oily or sensitive skin.
Common complaints include prickly heat, underarm infections, foot fungus, and rashes in skin folds. Dr Malik warned that if these conditions are not treated, they may result in pigmentation and recurring inflammation.
To prevent these issues, he advised maintaining personal hygiene by showering twice daily, using antifungal powders on sensitive areas, and avoiding heavy creams or makeup that clog pores. He also recommended wearing light, breathable cotton clothing, staying hydrated, and changing clothes frequently after sweating.
The public was further advised to avoid direct sunlight between 11am and 4pm and to apply sunscreen before going outdoors to minimize heat-related skin damage.
