Rawalpindi declares fire season until mid-July to prevent wildfires

The Forest Department has announced the start of the fire season in Rawalpindi division, covering forests in Murree Galyat, Margalla Hills, and surrounding areas. The season will remain in effect until July 15, with strict measures introduced to reduce wildfire risks caused by tourists and picnickers.

Activities such as lighting fires, smoking, or using matches have been banned in forests of Murree, Margalla Hills, Kotli Sattiyan, and nearby locations. Forest officials’ leaves have been cancelled, and temporary offices established for enhanced monitoring. Surveillance cameras have been installed at key forest entrances.

Forest guards are being equipped with motorcycles, bicycles, and safety gear to patrol dense forest areas more effectively. Dead leaves, dry grass, and other combustible materials are regularly cleared, while large ponds have been created to store rainwater for firefighting.

Officials said the fire season could be extended until July 31 if high temperatures persist. The Forest Department is committed to preventing wildfire outbreaks and protecting the region’s forests.
