Pakistan Downs 12 Indian Drones Amid Rising Tensions, DG ISPR Confirms

Pakistan’s armed forces successfully intercepted and neutralised 12 Indian drones across multiple locations on May 7 and 8, in what military officials have described as a direct act of aggression from India. This move comes amid escalating tensions following a series of missile strikes and drone incursions.

Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed the interception during a press briefing, stating that Indian drones attempted to intrude into various parts of Pakistan, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, Karachi, Chor, Miano, and Attock. These attempts were thwarted, with all 12 drones successfully neutralised by the Pakistan Armed Forces.

In one unfortunate incident, a 13th drone partially struck a military target near Lahore, causing minimal damage to equipment. The attack led to injuries of four Pakistan Army personnel in Lahore, while a civilian in Miano, Sindh, was martyred.

The DG ISPR described these drone incursions as part of an ongoing pattern of military aggression from India. “Pakistan’s forces remain on high alert to defend the country’s airspace and territorial integrity,” he said, further adding that India had “lost the plot” after Pakistan’s downing of five Indian aircraft in a previous engagement along the Line of Control.

These actions are considered by Pakistan’s military leadership as a grave threat to regional stability, with broader implications for global security. The DG ISPR called for the international community to recognize the dangerous trajectory India is following with its provocative military actions.

Pakistan and India NSAs Establish Contact Amid Escalating Tensions

Meanwhile, the National Security Advisers (NSAs) of Pakistan and India have established communication following India’s missile attacks on Pakistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK). Pakistan’s NSA Lt General Asim Malik, who also serves as the Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), spoke with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that the two NSAs were in contact, although he refrained from providing further details about the discussions. Officials believe these talks are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions between the two countries.

The communication between the NSAs follows behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts, with international players, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, also involved in encouraging both sides to ease the situation. Rubio, who also holds the role of NSA, spoke to both Pakistani and Indian counterparts shortly after the Indian missile strikes.

The recent flare-up between the two nations follows the tragic missile strikes on May 6-7, which resulted in at least 31 deaths and dozens of injuries across Pakistan. India had launched the missile strikes, claiming retaliation for a previous attack on its territory.

Both countries have been working through tense diplomatic channels to avoid further escalation, but the situation remains volatile with the international community closely monitoring developments.
