Sindh government called for strict lockdown across the Sindh for the weekend days and specified time for other days as a measure to contain the covid-19 spread. What the police are required is to implement the orders strictly according to government guidelines, but there is apparent violation of orders especially in upper Sindh as everything is as usual due to patronage from concerned police officer to the shops and restaurants. But what is more astonishing is minting the hefty money illegally from shopkeepers, restaurants and almost from all businessmen.

Ultimately, public has to bear the brunt of this corruption in the form of inflated prices. Whenever public carry shopping, they are always charging excessive money on the above mentioned pretext. More importantly, the purpose of lockdown is somehow lost because markets are overcrowded with public for shopping even during lockdown hours and extents of implementation of SOP’s are not hidden to anyone.

I request higher authorities to keep check on police as people are already reeling from economic constraints and moreover it is matter of public health.
