Imran lauds overseas Pakistanis’ philanthropic role during Covid-19

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has lauded Pakistan nationals living abroad for their philanthropic role during the coronavirus pandemic which has taken the world in its grip.

In a series of tweets posted Saturday, the prime minister said non-resident nationals have long been a “source of inspiration” and have continued to help “their brothers and sisters” during this difficult time.

“There are many examples where the Pakistani community has been a source of inspiration, helping those around in need,” he stated.

In the subsequent tweet, Prime Minister Imran announced that country’s airspace for inbound international traffic will be opened from tomorrow to help the overseas workers who “have suffered the most during the pandemic”.

“This is being done especially to help our overseas workers who have suffered most in this pandemic but have shown great courage and made us proud,” he wrote.

Under a new policy, about 45,000 stranded nationals will be brought back home every week. According to official reports, the entire operation to repatriate nationals will be completed in a month.

“The federal government, in consultation with the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) and the provinces, has formulated a new comprehensive policy for the repatriation of the Pakistanis stuck abroad,” Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security Dr Moeed Yusuf said at a press conference earlier this week.
