NAB to move Interpol to bring back Suleman Shehbaz

–PML-N’s Marriyum says cases against Sharifs an affront to justice, democracy

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to contact the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to bring back Suleman Shhebaz, the son of National Assembly Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif, who is wanted in cases pertaining to money-laundering and assets beyond means.

In October last year, an accountability court in Lahore declared Suleman a proclaimed offender in the money laundering case and issued fresh non-bailable arrest warrants against him on the appeal of NAB. Subsequently, the anti-graft bureau declared him absconder in the same case. Last year, the bureau had seized the suspect’s shares amounting to Rs2 billion in 16 companies.

According to a NAB report presented to the accountability court at the time, it also seized cash worth Rs4.1 million held in three bank accounts as well as $4,000 dollars in two different bank accounts of the suspect.

In addition, NAB also seized 10 marlas agricultural land and pieces of land spread over 209 kanal owned by Suleman.

Reacting to the development, PML-N Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said the Sharif family has braved the world’s worst political victimisation by the “NAB-Niazi alliance” with resilience and has answered every question asked by this vengeful tag team, with bravery, transparency and evidence.

“The truth, however, is that despite rigorous witch-hunt and nonstop persecution and a barrage of accusations for over two years, the NAB-Niazi alliance has not been able to file a single reference against Shehbaz and his sons.”

Whenever the courts asked for proof, the NAB-Niazi alliance always ran away and could not prove any corruption accusation worth even a dime, she claimed.

“The same practice was adopted against Ishaq Dar and in the end the government had to bite the dust and got nothing but embarrassed and shame.”

“These cases against the opposition parties are unilateral, illegal and contrary to the letter and spirit of justice. This NAB-Niazi alliance, by becoming an institution of political victimisation, has shaken the very foundation of democratic system and national economy.”
