Army reaffirms support for institutions in fight against COVID-19

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday said that Pakistan Army will continue to cooperate with civil institutions in the country’s fight against the coronavirus outbreak.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief visited the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) where he was received by Commander Army Air Defence Command and NCOC National Coordinator Lieutenant General Hamood Uz Zaman Khan.

NCOC Operations and Planning Director General Major General Asif Mehmood Goraya briefed the COAS in detail about coronavirus-related multi-sectorial situation, implementation of National Coordination Committee’s (NCC) decision, projections about the likely spread of the disease and support being extended to the civil administration against the outbreak.

The army chief was also apprised about the national strategy of testing, tracing and quarantining (TTQ) suspected cases to identity disease spread, focused clusters and hotspots to enable targeted lockdowns and need-driven resource optimisation at all levels.

He lauded the remarkable efforts of NCOC in formulating and implementing COVID-19 response despite resource and time constraints.

While complimenting civil-military components of NCOC, General Bajwa emphasised the need for continued stratified risk assessment, managing trinity of health crisis, economic slide and psycho-social impact through efficient resource management.

“Pakistan Army in collaboration with other national institutions should take all possible measures to bring comfort to the nation in these challenging times particularly during the holy month of Ramzan,” he said.
