KARACHI: The brother of the prime suspect Atif Zaman in anchorperson Mureed Abbas murder case on Monday approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) seeking bail.
In response to the petition filed by Adil Zaman, the SHC served notices to the respondents including the Sindh prosecutor general to submit a reply till Feb 13.
Earlier, a trial court had rejected Zaman’s bail plea.
On July 9 last year, anchorperson Mureed Abbas, 34, was gunned down in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) over a monetary dispute.
Later on Sept 30, an anti-terrorism court dropped terrorism charges in the case and had sent the case back to a sessions court to conduct a trial of accused Atif Zaman on charges of killing Abbas.
Earlier, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Ghulam Nabi Memon had said that Mureed Abbas’ family was receiving threats. Speaking to media, he had said directives have been issued for the provision of protection to the family of the deceased anchorperson.
