Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of your daily readers to the most widespread habit of today, smoking. It is generally believed that smoking is cool. But, we do not know that smoking moves both us and others towards death. According to the WHO, a person who smokes one pack of cigarettes a day produces one cup of tar over his respiratory tract, which causes cancer and other severe diseases. A smoker does not keep the smoke to their own self, but envelops other people in it. Smoking also pollutes the environment.
A good decision taken by the government was to impose tax at the rate of Rs10 per pack of 20 cigarettes but it seems to have been ignored. It’s my request to the Ministry of Health that it should take some serious steps to curb the issue.
