The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday received two contempt petitions seeking contempt of court proceedings against federal ministers and other government officials over comments against the special court’s verdict in the Musharraf high treason case.
According to the details, petitioners Advocate Malik Ajmal Khan and Advocate Shabbir Hussain Gillani have nominated Federal Minister for Law Farrogh Naseem, Special Assistant to PM Firdous Ashiq Awan, Attorney General Anwar Mansoor and other officials as defendants in the case.
The defendants would be tried under Article 204 whereas the petitioners have requested that the defendants “should be disqualified from holding a public office”.
“Those who committed contempt of the court are representing the government and holding public offices. They insinuated the court and smeared the learned judge and the court. They levelled baseless allegations against the learned judge and used impolite words against him,” the petition states.
“No person has authority to scandalise and malign a judge due to his verdict in a case. The government people’s support to a proclaimed offender is against the law, the petition added.
