The counsel of Mohammad Khan – father of slain Waziristan native Naqeebullah Mehsud – on Tuesday withdrew a request to have his statement recorded following his demise on Monday.
Proceedings were held in a Karachi anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday for the ongoing trial of Naqeebullah’s murder, who along with three others was gunned down by police in January 2018.
Former Malir SSP Rao Anwar who was indicted by court in March, this year was brought before court during Tuesday’s proceedings.
The court was apprised that Khan, who was the complainant in his son’s murder case, has passed away.
Khan’s lawyer Advocate Salahuddin Panhwar requested the withdrawal of the application which was granted by court.
The next hearing is scheduled for December 16.
Addressing the media outside the court, Advocate Panhwar said that an application was filed in court to record the late Muhammad Khan’s statement via video link but had to be withdrawn owing to the latter’s untimely death.
“Despite his illness, he had continued to visit various institutions and courts with the hope of finding justice,” Panhwar said, adding that his client had been hopeful after receiving assurances from the army chief that he would get justice.
The advocate said he had spoken to Khan’s legal heirs who were still hopeful the promises made to Khan would be fulfilled.
Muhammad Khan died of cancer on Monday and his funeral prayers were offered in the Town Hall ground of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district on Tuesday.
Brigadier Imtiaz Hussain and the deputy commissioner of Tank were also present at the funeral.
