LAHORE: A two-day first aid training workshop meant to impart basic life-saving skills to journalists concluded here on Tuesday.

The workshop was organized by Pakistan Red Crescent Provincial Punjab Office to assure a proactive provision of first aid to victims during natural and man-made disasters.

Over thirty journalists from various media houses attended the session.

During the workshop, participants received information on key relevant topics, such as cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking; fractures, shock, bandages and heart attacks.

Mock sessions were also held on how to handle emergency situations and transport patients to safety.

Addressing the concluding ceremony, Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Provincial Punjab Office Justice (r) Sheikh Ahmed Farooq said initial minutes are crucial for survivors in any disaster situation and many lives can be saved if the people around have first aid training.

He added that PRC also maintains a blood bank which provides free of cost blood to thalassemia patients.

Mahboob-ul-Haq further said that training is necessary for journalists as whenever any untoward incident takes place in any area, media personnel are usually the first to reach the spot.

The chairman also distributed certificates among participants.

Participants of the workshop lauded efforts of PRC Provincial Punjab Office and said they were now prepared to provide on-spot first aid to survivors.

The training was facilitated by renowned first aid trainer, Muhammad Imran and was held under PRCS Media and Communication Department officer Ali Raza Mukhtar.
