LAHORE: A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team has arrived at the Kot Lakhpat Jail to interrogate the incarcerated former prime minister Nawaz Sharif over the purchase and purported illegal use of over 30 bulletproof government vehicles.
A four-member anti-graft team arrived at the prison where the former premier is serving his sentence in the Al-Azizia corruption reference.
The anti-graft body disclosed that ongoing inquiry pertained to the illegal use of 34 duty-free bulletproof cars that were purchased from Germany in 2016 for guests of the 19th SAARC that year.
According to the NAB, Sharif had subsequently added 20 of those 34 cars to his own motorcade and he, as well as his daughter, Maryam, used the vehicles for their personal use too, a private media outlet reported.
The corruption watchdog further observed that the former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi ex-principal secretary to PM Fawad Hasan Fawad and the former foreign secretary had also been questioned in this regard.
The bureau further maintained that foreign ministry officials also misused the bulletproof cars.
