KARACHI: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh police arrested a wanted terrorist of banned outfit organization from Paposh Nagar area of the metropolis on Thursday.
According to CTD Chief Raja Umar Khattab, on an intelligence-based action, CTD police apprehended a wanted terrorist Mohammad Ishaq alias Gul, whose name was on the red book.
Raja Khattab said the alleged terrorist had entered Balochistan from Afghanistan and then arrived in interior Sindh. He returned to Karachi for a major terror attack in the metropolis, the police officer claimed. He said the terrorist Ishaq had joined banned Jindullah group in 2006 and went to Afghanistan to get terror training.
The accused was a neighbour of Ataur Rehman alias Naeem Bukhari of banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi terrorist group, adding that he was wanted to police in a number of terror activities.
“Ishaq is involved in heinous criminal offences including an attack over the former Corp Commander Karachi, attack on Ashoor procession, attack on Gulistan-e-Johar police station and Avari Tower Blast incident,” the officials said.
“The suspect managed to escape to Afghanistan back in 2008 and was placed on CTD’s red book,” officials concluded.
Police have recovered a suicide jacket and a hand grenade from his possession.
